This Week in Native Ads 3/20

Thanks to everyone who participated, Gustaf passes on thanks for the invaluable feedback. If anyone else wants to join just let me know. One big thing Content consumption is up. I was delighted to receive the latest edition of The Explorers Journal, I’ll treat myself at the weekend over coffee. It got me thinking, during this disruption print editions of major publications are likely to stop, or be paused. And some won’t come back. A… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 3/6

A quick ask, Gustaf on his team is looking for marketers to provide feedback on a new initiative. If you would like to be involved, in exchange for a treat on us, let me know. Just asking for 30 minutes of your time – over a screen share. One big thing Last week I wondered – when or IF we would mention the Corona Virus in the newsletter. This is the week I guess and we have a couple… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 2/14

Gustaf here. Still covering for Ben, who’s not back until next week. I know… but we can get through this together, I promise! One big thing It's Valentine’s Day. When we peek under the hood at Nudge data, we notice that consumers are spending 69% longer on quizzes during Valentine’s. Curious. For more insights, such as the best time of day to advertise during the Feast day of Saint Valentine, give our… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 1/24

After a couple of meatier weeks this is a lighter edition – but do spend it checking out the campaigns of the week, both excellent. Notable stories this week Revcontent introduces native video marketplace. Employees sharing TikToks behind the scenes. Facebook has barred an Israeli firm that claims it can “subconsciously influence” people, because it is allegedly using fake accounts on social media platforms. Instagram… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 1/17

One big thing The story this week was Google committing to a roadmap to remove third-party cookies within 2 years. This has been an internal battle for them, Google Adsense vs DoubleClick vs Chrome. Google Adsense is the traditional advertising teams’ at Google, DoubleClick is the more brand solutions and Chrome – obviously their browser. The ads teams want/need the third party cookies but Chrome doesn’t want to lose market share by not keeping up… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 11/1

Colin here. I’m filling in for Ben as he prepares for child number two. One big thing There’s starting to be a flood of brand interest onto TikTok. It is, put simply, one of the most interesting and creative spaces on the Internet right now. Not surprisingly, the platform is experimenting and is in the nascent stages of building out its ad and sponsorship products. Right now, it’s basically just an opening screen that a… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 10/11

We’ve been thinking about renaming the newsletter from This Week in Native Ads, native is now the norm and de-facto. Any thoughts or ideas? Format will stay the same, covering the pillars of native; programmatic, content, balance of art and science and the intersection of advertising and media. One big thing The only constant is change. And this week’s stories only highlight that, we see mobile time is growing 27% YOY, DTC brands pulling from social to invest in… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 8/23

One big thing I’ve been thinking about Barbell strategy this week. When people invest short term and long term. Or a big consumer media company partners with a tiny company. Or the mix between high and low risk assets. It seems in a digital world, the middle is being squeezed out. If it’s sizable, it becomes a portfolio item in a bigger company. Otherwise its small and niche. As it relates to readers, it seems… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 2/22

This week is a full on edition, so buckle in as it’s full of gems, from datapoints on Amazon, DrainerBot, to Apple acquiring a digital marketing firm. ? Notable stories this week This News Corp Australia story is interesting, the Outbrain vs Taboola showdown. Ultimately Taboola won this round. This is a battle which goes on every month. Hulu’s latest influencer marketing campaign should give you second thoughts about using one. Great… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 2/1

Notable stories this week Facebook & Google market research. This does raise the threat of being disintermediated by the operating system itself, what happens if Apple bans the app? Apparently Facebook has prepared for such a scenario (shout out to @ow for pointing this out). Very curious turn of events, they’re playing with fire. I suspect there is a research firm who recruits… Continue reading
