This Week in Native Ads 6/22

T’was the week of Cannes – where we got headlines from the regular suspects, that we expected to get. Heat on Influencer marketing, easy and justified, transparency is needed. ^^ Calling on the social networks to clean up fake followers, for ad spend that isn’t flowing through them, is ambitious though 😉 Given they already block tens of millions of fake accounts/bots each day. AT&T is heating things up, expect acquisitions. Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 6/15

This week’s edition is a little late – I shifted house yesterday so got caught in that madness. The World Cup has started and so has the content that goes with it – which we’ll share over the next few weeks. In the office pool I have Belgium & Croatia, so if you’re yet to get behind a team – here’s a couple. 🙂 Also, word is, valuations are jumping with the AT&T approval, lets see how this changes the… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 6/1

We’ve seen the GDPR roll out continue, more on that below, I think the smartest play I’ve seen is Axel Springer and their new tech. We hosted our latest content dinner last night, talking on programmatic audio – what opportunities it opens up, the confluence of content marketing and branded content, and what native means in all of this. Thanks to all who came along, hope to catch you at the next one. Notable stories this week New York Media,… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 5/25

GDPR edition! We all survived? I’ll spin up VPN today and have a browse. I attended the Silicon Alley Golf tournament yesterday, met some great people, thanks to Darren Herman and team for putting on a good show. They have an upcoming tennis event in July so keep an eye out. I also attended the IAB Content/Native Summit call this week and the DigiDay Plus event. All round, there appears to be confidence of calmer waters in 2019. Notable stories this week… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 5/18

Gustaf is presently in Sweden, reminding me how great summer is. Hmmm I’m seeing a lot more rain than sun this week. This week is relatively quiet on the news front, which is a nice change from the last few weeks – so I’ll do it justice and keep it short. Notable stories this week Hearst announces Hearst Data Studio, an internal 20 person team that gives advertisers additional… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 5/11

I’ve been lapping up the sun the last week here in New York. We see Samsung beginning to sell ads direct AND this post by Joe Lazauskas, around media companies copying marketers and marketers are copying media companies. Everyone is competing for attention, so it makes sense that everyone becomes a media company. What is curious is the trend, of everyone opening a studio to provide service/content around their tech driven ads OR companies selling their own ads. Continue reading

General Electric Case Study

Background   In August 2014, working with digital agency Barbarian, GE launched “Drop Science,” a music track produced by DJ Mathew Dear. The track sampled sounds from some of the world’s most powerful machines manufactured by GE. Accompanied by a YouTube video documentary, the track launched on SoundCloud, and both rapidly spread across the Internet and around the world.     From previous campaigns, Barbarian knew it faced a challenge not only in measuring… Continue reading

This Week in Native Ads 5/4

Given I missed a couple of weeks, this is a bigger edition, I’ve worked to make it as impactful as possible. This week in conversations, the balance between technology & service has come up a bit, our industry is often the first disrupted by technology – and everyone is feeling it. This is the new world, how can technology companies work with their service partners more effectively? And vice versa. It’s a partnership eco-system, neither can exist without the… Continue reading
